Jasper Master Gardeners (JMG) is a chapter of the Texas Master Gardener Association (http://txmg.org/)

Jasper Master Gardeners hold a Butterfly Festival to celebrate the migration of the Monarch Butterflies on the third Saturday of October. A plant sale, kid’s activities and butterfly release are all held at the Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) at 225 Water Street.  The OLC, greenhouse, meditation pond and butterfly garden are all part of the Jasper Arboretum Project.

The current Jasper Master Gardener organization began with classes in October 2009.

Jasper Master Gardeners are members of the local community who commit to 50 hours of horticultural training and agree to contribute at least equal time as volunteers for community projects and providing horticultural information to the public.

JMG members do programs for clubs, schools and libraries; work on garden projects like the Arboretum; conduct workshops on everything from propagation to fire-wise landscaping and assist with many community service projects. They offer frequent field trips to local farms and nurseries, hands-on workshops, advanced training, and the opportunity to help with research projects. In other words, lots of hard work.

If interested in becoming a Jasper Master Gardener please contact the AgriLife Extension Office, at 409-384-3721. Classes are taught by local volunteers and guest experts on a variety of garden-related topics.

If your club or organization is looking for a speaker, call our office, 409-384-3721 and we can also arrange for hands-on classes.
