Jasper County is almost 70 miles long and extends from the rolling hills of the Lakes Area to the flat coastal plain near Buna. The Lakes Area is called that for Lake Sam Rayburn and Steinhagen (aka Dam B) and the nearby Toledo Bend reservoir in neighboring Newton County. More than half of Jasper County is timberland. Jasper is also known for strawberries, blueberries, pecans and muscadine grapes, as well as cattle and forage. The southern part of the county is hospitable to citrus production, and many small farms throughout the county produce melons and vegetables.
